The Glitter Between the Cracks
by Shawna Schiro
Glitter Between the Cracks is a photographic exploration of identity, freedom, and self-invention—an intimate look at those who live beyond the edges of convention. Shot entirely on 35mm and Polaroid film, Shawna Schiro captures women who exist between spectacle and truth: a showgirl, a sex worker, and a drag performer. Each story unfolds in the space between the real and the imagined, where the glittering façade of performance meets the rawness of being seen.
Born from Schiro’s own departure from the hollow shine of the entertainment world, the series examines what remains when illusion fades. Presented as part of the group exhibition In Her Light, running at SpaceKraft Studios from October 18th to November 30th, the project extends beyond the walls of the gallery into this limited-edition zine.
The publication offers a deeper immersion into each subject’s world, featuring exclusive analog photographs and full-length interviews not viewable in the exhibition. Through these pages, the women’s voices and stories take center stage—offering intimate reflections on resilience, identity, and the pursuit of authenticity.
Each page moves like a fragmented dream—sun-bleached, cinematic, and unguarded. The sequencing follows its own rhythm, echoing the pulse of Las Vegas and the desert that surrounds it: beautiful, unforgiving, and alive with contradiction.
Printed in a limited run of 50 copies, Glitter Between the Cracks invites readers into a world where artifice dissolves and truth glimmers through the dust—a celebration of the untamed, the unfiltered, and the undeniably human.
